Biography

Ed Baker believes building deep relationships with his clients is the bedrock of achieving success in any dispute. Taking a practical, common-sense approach to the law, Ed is a dynamic litigator who draws on extensive experience in both state and federal courts to resolve high-stakes disputes for a diverse range of clients—from individual artists and entrepreneurs to Fortune 500 companies. While he recognizes that not every conflict belongs in a courtroom, Ed’s background in elite trial practice ensures his clients have a formidable advocate when litigation becomes inevitable.

Ed maintains a robust litigation practice with deep knowledge across several key sectors. In the realm of professional liability and legal ethics, he provides sophisticated counsel on the California Rules of Professional Conduct, representing attorneys and other professionals in liability disputes and State Bar investigations. His commercial litigation experience is equally extensive, covering securities and lending disputes, commercial real estate, franchise litigation, and “bet the farm” business matters.

His background in entertainment and digital media is rooted in firsthand industry experience; before entering the law, Ed earned his Master’s in Music Business from New York University and founded an independent record label in New York City. This unique perspective allows him to serve as a powerful ally for creators seeking to protect their intellectual property. Furthermore, Ed has a proven track record in the energy sector, representing clients in commercial disputes against major oil companies and handling high-stakes regulatory matters involving utility companies.

Ed received his J.D. from Southwestern Law School, where he served as an editor for the Southwestern Law Review and was a published author. During law school, he held prestigious internships with the United States Department of Justice at both the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Trustee Program, and externed for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California. As a former dual NCAA athlete in soccer and golf, Ed brings a disciplined, competitive edge to every matter he handles.
